Federal and state program standards
Federal Standards
All College Tech Prep programs are implemented through the
Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act. The act
specifies that technical preparation must have the following core
elements:
- Coordinated programs of technical
education including two years of high
school and two years of college-minimum. Programs may begin in
ninth grade and extend to completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Articulation agreements that define the relationship between high
school and college
- Programs focusing on
high skill areas such as
engineering, health, science, environmental studies, business and
information technologies
- Equal
access for special populations
- Curriculum
development

In-service education for
teachers and counselors
- Career
guidance

Ohio Standards
The
Ohio
College Tech Prep Advisory Council has implemented state program
standards to supplement federal standards. In Ohio College Tech Prep
programs:
- college prep
academic standards are aligned to

- high school curriculum includes
three units of science with two lab-based science courses
- a state-approved
Technical
Curriculum Profile (TCP) is used
