WANTED:  Business and Community Involvement

When you share time, talent and resources through College Tech Prep, you're investing in the future.  Our students appreciate your involvement and our educators value your expertise.  Beyond posting jobs, there are a number of ways that you can become more actively involved as a College Tech Prep partner. Consider these ideas:

  • Identify and commit to providing work-based learning experiences.

  • Assist in identifying academic and technical performance standards.

  • Assist in developing and providing incentives for students.

  • Share resources such as expertise, time and meeting facilities.

  • Update faculty members on current technologies and assist with team teaching.

  • Review marketing plans and tools.

  • Educate other employers about College Tech Prep.

  • Volunteer to serve on a local College Tech Prep program advisory committee.
  • Offer opportunities for students to intern at your worksite, or try them out in summer jobs or part-time positions after school and/or on weekends.

  • Become a mentor for students preparing for careers in your field.

  • Offer summer externships to high school teachers (including math, science, and other academic teachers) to help them understand your industry and bring first-hand business experiences back to the classroom.

  • Speak at a Career Day or in a College Tech Prep classroom – or help us with relevant, up-to-date career information.

  • Get involved with your community’s parent-teacher association and help re-educate parents about the opportunities and importance of technology careers.

  • Encourage your company to donate equipment, scholarships or other services to strengthen and grow local College Tech Prep programs.

  • Volunteer to judge student projects at a local, regional, or state College Tech Prep Student Showcase to show your support for College Tech Prep and its students.

  • Be a vocal advocate: Tell your business colleagues and government contacts about College Tech Prep and what it’s doing to train the workforce of the future.
