Articulation
Articulation is an essential component of the Tech Prep Education Act and
the pathway development process. Ohio articulation
commonly involves:
- Transcripted credits
- Credit banking or credit escrow accounts
- Dual enrollment
- Secondary teacher certification of
competency attainment
- Senior exam options (which are not to be
confused with college test-outs)
- Faculty sharing strategies
- Course by-passes
Agreements
Articulation agreements formalize the transition from
consortium/regional secondary programs to related programs at the
community college level. These agreements detail a clear-cut commitment to
transfer a student’s high school Tech Prep work into college credit,
advanced placement or additional benefits.
Articulation agreements specifically
identify items in a career pathway/articulation agreement document:
- Entrance requirements and program
standards at both high school and college levels
- Whether students admitted into a
specific pathway are automatically admitted into the regional community
college(s). Courses in the pathway curriculum where students may earn
college credit
- College coursework that can be bypass at
college entrance
These issues are outlined in a contract and
detailed in a Career Pathway/Articulation Agreement which is submitted to
the state office for review and approval.
