Project Lead the Way

Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a four-year sequence of high school courses which, when combined with college preparatory mathematics and science, introduces students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering and engineering technology prior to entering college.

PLTW allows high school students to determine if engineering is the career they desire. PLTW students are better prepared for college engineering programs and are more likely to be successful in college.

Project Lead the Way courses:
 

• Introduction to engineering design

• Digital electronics

• Principles of engineering

• Computer integrated manufacturing

• Civil engineering and architecture

• Biotechnical engineering (in development)

• Aerospace technology (in development)

• Engineering design and development

A critical component of PLTW is its comprehensive teacher training model.  PLTW curriculum uses cutting edge technology and software requiring specialized training. Ongoing training supports teachers and provides for continuous skill improvement.

Ohio's involvement in PLTW continues to grow.  Participation has doubled over the last two years throughout Ohio.  Comprehensive public schools, career technical schools and private institutions are adopting the PLTW curriculum.  

Professional development coordination

The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Board of Regents has identified Sinclair Community College as the Ohio Project Lead the Way State Affiliate. Sinclair will provide teacher training, teacher and counselor professional development, participate in the certification process and serve as a resource to PLTW programs.
