Starting a College Tech Prep Program

If you are interested in implementing one or more College Tech Prep programs, your College Tech Prep Consortium can help you:

  • Complete a College Tech Prep program application
  • Implement a pathway
  • Create necessary articulation agreements
  • Obtain essential training

You must document and demonstrate

  • Ability to deliver the specific target pathway
  • Availability of appropriately certified teachers
  • Capability to deliver required academic instruction
  • Availability of appropriate technology and infrastructure to support the pathway

Tips to consider before you begin

  • Review the College Tech Prep Pathways to see if your discipline or a related one is a College Tech Prep pathway.  Read through the competencies. Remember this is a document for both secondary and postsecondary curriculum (grades 11-14).  If your program is not on the current list, check the calendar to see if your program is in the process of development.
  • Review available local resources.
  • Check your College Tech Prep consortium affiliationYour consortium’s website will indicate local programs, available services and resources to help start new programs
  • Contact your College Tech Prep Consortium Director to discuss your interest.
  • Contact your building administrator to discuss your plans.
  • Articulate your solid ideas based on your research.
