Tech Prep : Partners

United States Department of Education

College Tech Prep, which began in the early 1980s as a small, locally driven high school improvement strategy, has grown into a major national strategy for improving students' academic knowledge and technical skills.

College Tech Prep programs are implemented through the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act. This federal legislation supports high school and college linkages in educational programs related to high growth technologies.

Roughly 47 percent of the nation's high schools, or 7,400 high schools offer one or more College Tech Prep programs. Nationally, nearly every community and technical college participates in a College Tech Prep consortium, as do many four-year colleges and universities, private businesses and employer and union organizations.

Federal funding support Ohio College Tech Prep programs and functions including:

  • Curriculum development
  • Professional development
  • Work-based learning experiences
  • Career guidance
